Non-QM/Jumbo Underwriter
Job Description
Supreme Lending is seeking an experienced Non-QM/Jumbo Underwriter to evaluate complex residential mortgage loans and make sound, independent credit decisions. This position is responsible for ensuring loans meet company, investor, and regulatory requirements while delivering accurate decisions and responsive service to our production and operations teams.
I. OVERVIEW:
- The Non-QM/Jumbo Underwriter will review and analyze credit, income, assets, collateral, loan structure, and overall borrower risk.
- This includes underwriting self-employed borrowers, high-net-worth borrowers, investment properties, and loans using alternative income documentation.
II. EXPECTATIONS
- Underwrite Non-QM, Jumbo, and other non-agency mortgage loans.
- Review bank-statement, DSCR, asset-utilization, asset-depletion, 1099, profit-and-loss, and full-documentation loan programs.
- Analyze personal and business tax returns, financial statements, credit reports, appraisals, assets, reserves, and liabilities.
- Evaluate layered risk and identify appropriate compensating factors.
- Issue clear and accurate underwriting conditions and review files through final approval.
- Identify potential fraud, misrepresentation, occupancy concerns, and undisclosed liabilities.
- Communicate underwriting decisions and guideline interpretations to loan officers, processors, and other business partners.
- Maintain established productivity, accuracy, quality, and turn-time standards.
- Stay current on investor guidelines, company overlays, regulatory requirements, and Non-QM market changes.
III. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Five or more years of residential mortgage underwriting experience.
- At least three years of direct Non-QM, Jumbo, or non-agency underwriting experience.
- Strong experience underwriting self-employed borrowers and complex financial profiles.
- Advanced knowledge of personal and business tax-return analysis.
- Experience with bank-statement, DSCR, asset-utilization, asset-depletion, and other alternative-documentation programs.
- Strong understanding of credit, income, assets, collateral, and layered-risk analysis.
- Knowledge of Ability-to-Repay requirements and applicable federal and state mortgage regulations.
- Ability to interpret investor guidelines, underwriting matrices, company overlays, and exception requirements.
- Strong analytical, organizational, decision-making, and communication skills.
- Ability to independently manage a high-volume pipeline while maintaining accuracy and meeting turn-time expectations.
- Experience with Encompass is preferred.
